In Wallingford, October 16, 2002, Clifford I. Erland of 22 Masonic Ave., formerly of Garvin Rd., Hamden, husband of Ruth MacBride Erland. Born in Port Jefferson, NY, June 4, 1923, a son of the late Charles and Elsie Smith Erland. Mr. Erland retired as a Postman for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Haven, a Past Master of Day Spring Lodge # 30, A.F. & A.M., The Scottish Rite - Valley of New Haven, Lafayette Consistory, a Past Patron of Alice Chapter # 76, O.E.S. and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Cliff served as a coach with the Hamden Father's Baseball Association for over 30 years. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Dennis Cowhig of Warrington, PA, a son and his wife, Kenneth and Katherine Heyse Erland of Wallingford, three brothers; Walter, Calvin and Albert Erland of Cobleskill, NY and three grandchildren; Rose Cowhig, Kyle and Ryan Erland. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosemary Creamer Erland, a son Keith Erland, three brothers: Charles, Arthur and Lloyd Erland. Funeral service will be held at BEECHER AND BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN, Saturday, October 19th at 10:A.M. Friends may call Friday from 6 - 8 P.M. A Masonic service by Day Spring Lodge # 30, A.F. & A.M. at 7 P.M. After the burial in Centerville Cemetery on Saturday, friends are invited to the Johnson Apartments, Masonic Healthcare Center, Wallingford for a reception.
