Cynthia Lee Collier 58, of Moodus, CT passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning, April 8, 2023 following a long illness. She was born May 13, 1964 in Bridgeport, and lived most of her life in CT with a brief season in North Carolina. With each changing season of her life, families were there to meet her needs including the homes of Kathy Poston, Vernonia Bunting, and David & Mary Locke, as well as a medical facility, Cheshire Regional Rehab Center.
Cindy’s story is one of inspiration. Born with Downs Syndrome, her unconditional love and joy touched many lives in many places. She is known as a ‘gift of love.’ Cindy loved to be with people, listening to her music, watching TV, coloring and writing in her notebooks. She enjoyed being around small children and watching over them. Being non-verbal, Cindy used simple sign language with her hands and expressive gestures on her face to communicate her needs and desires. She also participated in Special Olympics and Day Programs under DDS. While working for Sarah Inc., she assembled flashlights, business kits, made boxes and packed items into bags.
Being on hospice care through Hartford HealthCare at Home since February 2021, Cindy endured many difficult challenges with a determination to live while being supported by those around her who knew her and loved her. Her gift of love, her determination for life despite its difficulties, and her radiant smile is her gift to all who took the time to truly know her. Cindy is predeceased by her biological Mother, Judy Lea Collier.
Family and friends are invited to join a celebration of life on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, with a calling hour from 10:00-11:00 a.m., and a Celebration Service at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery. Remember Jesus’ parable in Matthew 25:31-40, “When you cared for one of the least of these, my little ones, my true brothers and sisters, you demonstrated love for me.”
