Debra Shimchick
Debra Shimchick, age 60, of Stratford, passed away on July 24, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital. She is survived by her parents Walter George and Louise R. Shimchick of Milford, her sister Cindy and brother-in-law Joseph Agro of Milford, her brother David Shimchick of New Haven, and her cat Choo Choo. Debra was born in New Haven on November 25, 1956. She attended Point Beach School in Milford and graduated from Milford High School. She received an Associate’s Degree from Bryant College and later earned a Bachelor’s degree from Sacred Heart University while working full-time. Debra was employed at Stauffer Chemical Company in the early 80’s and then spent the next 34 years working for Hubbell, Inc. Debra was a highly self-motivated employee who was always acquiring new skills in order to improve her productivity. She began her career as a secretary in the Market Research Department. Hard work and advanced training enabled her to serve later as Marketing Research Analyst and Sales Analyst and Marketing Research Supervisor. Her final position before leaving the company in June was HUBS Business Information Analyst. Throughout her adult life Debra was an active parishioner and served in different leadership roles at two different parishes of the Orthodox Church. She was Treasurer of Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in New Haven, and Church President of Nativity of the Holy Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Waterbury. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 28th at 11 a.m. at Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church, 285 Alden Ave. New Haven, CT 06515. Friends and family are invited to pay respects to Debra and offer condolences to her family at the church before the funeral service from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow at King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Debra’s name may be made to Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church.
