Doris Barber Hill

Meriden-Doris Barber Hill, 74, loving wife of 51 years of Robert W. Hill, Sr. of Dryden Dr., passed away November 18, 2006 in Miller Memorial Community after a brief illness. Mrs. Hill was born in Meriden, May 9, 1932 a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Winifred Whiting Barber and resided in Meriden all of her life. She was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years, having received her nursing degree from Mass Memorial Hospital in 1953 she went on to be a nurse in Sloane-Kettering Institute in NY, and worked in the Meriden Nursing Home for 16 years, and also served as a private duty nurse until her retirement. Mrs. Hill was an active life long member of the First Congregational Church of Meriden, at the church she was on the Scholarship Committee, the Camp Claire Committee, and a member of the Merry Mates. She also was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, and in the Meriden community she served on several other boards. She also enjoyed vacationing in Maine with her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and her husband, Leslie and Robert Fiore of Cheshire, a son, Robert W. Hill, Jr. of Meriden, a brother, Kenneth Barber of Carolina Trace, NC, and 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Marissa, and Alex Hill, Kimberley and Stephanie Fiore. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hill was predeceased by a son, David W. Hill, and a brother, Arthur Barber. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 20, at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church, 62 Colony St. Meriden. Rev. John Clarke will officiate.
