Doris E. Raynor

Doris E. Raynor, age 96, of Cheshire, formerly of Hamden, passed away on December 6, 2017. Born in New Haven on September 5, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Eiel S. Eielson & Julia Johnson Eielson. Doris was the widow of Atty. Gordon R. Raynor and sister of the late Janet Sandstrom, the Honorable Rodney S. Eielson, E. Stanley Eielson, and Kenneth G. Eielson. She is survived by nieces Cindy Sandstrom Meeker & her husband Chip of Newington, Faith Eielson of Naples, FL, Sharon Eielson Marvel & her husband Dan of Delray Beach, FL, Nancy Rubino & her husband Guy of Kennebunk, ME, and Silah Larson of Cheshire; nephews Eiel Eielson & his wife Cindi of Bend, OR, Ken Eielson of Ocean City, NJ, and Hugh Larson & his wife Barbara of Bethany; several grand and great-grandnieces & nephews, and several dear friends, including Heidi Betzner Richetelle of Hamden, and her beloved caregiver Theresa Young. A graduate of Hillhouse High School and student of the Stone Business College, she was formerly employed at the New York, New Haven, Hartford Railroad. Doris was a lifelong member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Woodbridge, where she was a member of the choir, a Deaconess, a Sunday School teacher, a Youth Leader, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was a member of the New Haven Ski Club (Cup winner 4 years), Badminton Club of New Haven, and a member of the New Haven Country Club. She was a volunteer at Elim Park, where she resided, and was an avid NY Yankee and UCONN Womens Basketball fan. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 14th at 11 AM in Nelson Hall at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doris's memory may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
