MERIDEN - Doris M. Haines, 85, a long time resident of Meriden, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the Curtis Home after a long illness. She was the loving wife for 61 years of John (Jack) Haines, past chief of the South Meriden Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Haines was born in Meriden on May 13, 1919, the daughter of the late Herman and Bertha Hoppe. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and St. John activities. She was employed at Besse-Boynton Store and Meriden Awning Company for twenty years and was a member of the South Meriden Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Mark Haines and his wife, Lil, of Wallingford and Gary Haines and his companion, Colleen Kinard, of Meriden. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haines was predeceased by her infant son, Richard Haines, and four sisters and seven brothers. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Brinkley will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Avenue, Meriden. If desired, memorial contributions in Mrs. Haines' memory may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450. The Haines family would like to thank Dr. Neil Scollan and the Curtis Home for the wonderful care shown to Doris.
