PLAINVILLE - Edgar J. Brainerd, 78, formerly of Meriden, husband of Virginia (Lauder) Brainerd of Wallingford, died after a long illness on Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Plainville Health Care Center, which was his home for the past 8 years. Born in Meriden on June 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Reginald and Mary Elizabeth (Carter) Brainerd. He resided all his life in Meriden until he became a patient at Plainville Health Care Center. He attended Meriden schools and the Hartford Art School of Fashion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for many years at Allegheny Ludlum in Wallingford. He was a drummer in many local bands, such as the Johnny Solek Band and Krakowska Band. He was a member of the Haddam Historical Society and Founders and Patriots. His ancestors were one of the original founders of Haddam, CT and he was a genealogy enthusiast. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Judith (Brainerd) Kizilski and her husband, Robert of Southington, Nancy Brainerd of Anchorage, AK and Marcia Brainerd of Plantsville; five grandchildren, Michael and Peter Kizilski, Christine Delgado, Lara and Jared Kosky; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Alyssa Kizilski; a brother, Stanley Brainerd of Gray, Maine; a sister, Mabel Wilbur of Henrietta, NY; and several nieces and nephews. We would like to extend our thanks to the staff of Plainville Health Care Center for their compassion and care. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Epicopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Anne Jensen will officiate. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT.
