Edward John Zaichuk, of Hamden, died peacefully on December 15, 2014 having lived for over 100 years. Mr. Zaichuk was born in Worcester, MA on May 14, 1914. He was the husband of the late Norma E. Young Zaichuk and son of the late Philip C. and Adela Zaichuk. He was a Civil Engineer, a 1936 graduate of Northeastern University and was a Registered Professional Safety Engineer in Connecticut. He was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. of Boston in 1936 and held positions in their Loss Prevention Dept. as Field Safety Engineer in Boston; Resident Safety Engineer in Lynn, MA; Senior Resident Safety Engineer in New Haven, CT; District Loss Prevention Manager; Western New England District Loss Prevention Manager; Home Office, Boston- Loss Prevention Manager of Personnel and Policyholder Training. He retired from Liberty Mutual as Technical Consultant in 1984. Mr. Zaichuk was a member of the Connecticut Valley Safety Society and the American Society of Safety Engineers. He was a founder of the Nutmeg Chapter of ASSE and served as its first president. He was also a member of the American Society of Training and Development. Mr. Zaichuk is survived by a daughter, Georgia C. Jarvis & her husband Peter of Naples, FL: a son, Philip Y. Zaichuk & his wife Elizabeth Stocker of Milford; two grandchildren, Kristen Ciuffreda & husband Lee of Naples, FL and Edward C. Coff & his wife Elena of Newtown, PA; two great-grandchildren, Caroline Haines and Grant Weinreich; two great-great grandsons all of Naples, FL; a nephew, Richard Welch & his wife Virginia of Stonington.
