Edward V. Smith 83, died peacefully on Thurs., July 17, 2014 at Paradigm Healthcare and Rehab Center in Waterbury. He was the brother of Harold Smith of Waterbury, David Smith and his wife, Joan of Reading, MA and Jerome Smith of Rochester, NY. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends including dear friend Kate Corvaja of Spring Lake, NJ. Edward was born in Hamden, CT July 10, 1931 a son of the late Philip A. and Mabel E. Quinn Smith. He resided in Hamden for most of his life and graduated from Hamden High School and Fairfield University with a degree in accounting. He was employed by the US Postal Service on Brewery St., New Haven for many years and retired from Wallingford Post Office. He was a parishioner of St. Rita Church in Hamden. He also served with the US Army of occupied Germany after WW II. He made many friends there and returned for many visits to the area around Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich. He loved to travel and was a Boston Red Sox fan. His extended family wishes to thank the staff at Paradigm and Vitas for the care given to Eddie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rita Church, Sat., July 19 at 10 a.m. Friends may visit with his family on Sat. from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Interment with Military Honors in St. Mary Cemetery, Hamden.
