New Haven, Connecticut

Eileen Elizabeth McAllen Burkhard passed away on September 6th at the astonishing age of 101 years. She was the widow of George [deceased 2002], and the mother of 5 children: George [deceased] (Paula), Thomas (Irene), Bernadette (Thomas Dwyer), Theresa, and Mary. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A member of the “Greatest Generation,” she, her two sisters, and one brother were raised during the era of the Great Depression by her mother, Helena Hedolin McAllen, essentially made single by a debilitating injury to her husband, Lawrence McAllen, associated with his service in the U.S. Army during World War One.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Eileen raised her family there, worshipping at St. Francis Catholic Church in the Fair Haven neighborhood where all of her children attended parochial school. She lived her final days at assisted living facilities in Niceville, Florida, close to her daughters Bernadette and Mary. She will be interred next to her husband George at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven, Connecticut. To send a condolence, please see obituary at www.beecherandbennett.com.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a great person. We do miss the Burkhard family!
