Elaine Snyder
Elaine Frances Snyder, 92, of Woodbridge, wife of the late George Snyder, passed away at YNHH on August 27, 2015. Born in New Haven on April 23, 1923 to the late Charles and Marie K. Shutter. Elaine is survived by her sisters, Dorinne S. Armstrong of Frederick, MD and Marguerite S. Witkop of Bartlett, NH; nieces, Debra Robinson and Diane Witkop; nephew, Richard Armstrong; beloved friend, James Purdy of Woodbridge and his sons, Ryan, Kevin, and Jeff. Predeceased by her niece, Lydia Armstrong. Elaine grew up in West Haven before moving to Woodbridge with her husband over 68 years ago. She graduated from Skidmore in 1945 with her bachelor's degree in history. A librarian, she worked in the Yale Library for 44 years before retiring. Traveling the world was one of her greatest loves. She enjoyed gardening, appreciated the outdoors, and cherished her cats. Elaine loved Block Island, where she had had a house for many years. She always liked to have a good time and will be remembered as a caring and generous person. BEECHER & BENNETT-TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave, in care of the private arrangements.
