Elizabeth 'Betty' Somerset, 84, wife of the late George Somerset, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at MidState Medical Center. She was born May 26, 1924 in Meriden a daughter of the late Frances Tyler. Betty was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Southington. She had worked for Unimax prior to retiring. Betty loved to play bingo, crochet, make ceramics, go to the beach and most especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Gail (Somerset) Igball of Meriden, a son, Gary and his wife Linda Somerset of Berlin, six grandchidlren, James Belcourt Jr. and Todd Belcourt both of Southington, Jason and Chris Belcourt both of Meriden, Gary Somerset Jr. of Bowie, MD and Amanda Colon of Kensington, thirteen great-grandchildren and four cousins, Joyce Burbidge, Lois Kroeber, Dorothy 'Sweetie' Labbe and Richard Westfort. Funeral service Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Catherine Fagerburg will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20 from 4-7 p.m. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to The Conn. Baptist Home, 292 Thorpe Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

  4. To all of Betty’s family, I was saddened to read that Betty passed away. I worked with her for many years at Unimax, and I remember when I first started there, her son’s cat had kittens and she brought one in for me. Betty also worked with my dad for many years at the International Silver Company. Please know that Betty is at peace and probably talking up a storm with my dad once again. Katie Brosnan Velez
