  1. to Ellen’s family,

I recently began walking around North Lake again, now that the road is done. every time I passed Ellen and Bob’s condo I wondered how she was doing. we were neighbors for many years and remained friendly. today a friend at Atria asked me if I had heard about Ellen. I had not, and am trying to process the loss.

Ellen was a quiet presence, a very thoughtful and caring person. while she was serious, she also had a great appreciation of life’s ironies. I hope that her memory will comfort you as you remember her.

  2. Dear Bob and the Ahern family,
Words alone cannot adequately express my deepest sympathy on the loss of our dear Ellen. She faced her illness with courage and conviction even though her treatments left her exhausted and sometimes depressed. I tried to make her laugh on those days! She was a special light in my life and I will always treasure her and our friendship. I only hope that memories of Ellen will always be in your hearts and lives. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during your time of sorrow!
    Love always, Alberta Davis

  3. My deep sympathy and prayers are with you, Bob, Tom, and dear cousins. Wishing I could be there with you in person, I am with you in spirit and prayer at this time when you are gathered at the funeral home. I have fond memories of spending time with sweet, gentle Ellen in CT when we were children. I am so glad we were back in touch during this past year, and that she shared with me her personal history and the gift of her essays. I am sure that she is now in God’s loving embrace and enjoying the company of her mom and my mom, her godmother.
