Barnes, Esther 'Ginger' N . Esther 'Ginger' N. Barnes, age 81, of Sheahan Dr., Hamden, currently living at Maple Woods Assisted Living Facility passed away May 10, 2009. Ginger was predeceased by her husband of 51 years Robert Hale Barnes. Born in Akron, Ohio on August 19, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Louis & Mary Widican Negru. She is the mother of Robert Kent Barnes and his wife Beth A. Nesbit Barnes of Prospect, CT and Kyle R. Barnes; grandmother of Adam and Katherine 'Katie' Barnes; mother in-law of Greta Immermann all of Vestal, NY; sister of Robert Negru and his wife Vivian of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and the late John Neru, Danny Negru, Helen Ashley, Florence Winters & Lydia Shingler; sister in-law of William Barnes & Marian Zehnder both of Copley, OH, Alan Barnes of Lake Orion MI & Evelyn Neru of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Ginger is also survived by several nieces & nephews. Ginger attended Kent State University, later employed as a Jr. Accountant for the Goodyear Tire Co. in Akron, OH. Later she was a Supervisor at Howland and Steinbach Department Stores for many years. She enjoyed skiing and bicycle riding in Vermont with her husband, family and friends, she also loved to travel, play bridge, read and do crossword puzzles. Friends may visit with her family on Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave. Hamden and may follow to attend her funeral service at 11 AM in Dunbar United Church of Christ, 419 Dunbar Hill Rd. Hamden. Burial will be Private. Contributions in her memory may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
