Ethel J. Whalen

Ethel J. Whalen, age 89, of Vineyard Road, Hamden, passed away Dec. 16, 2009 at her residence. Ethel is the wife of Joseph T. Whalen, Sr.; mother of Linnea Whalen of Milford and Joseph T. Whalen, Jr. of Hamden and sister of the late Hildur Turner & Henry Anderson. Ethel was born in New Haven on October 18, 1920, a daughter of the late Charles J. N. Hendrick Anderson & Alida Josephina Gustaveson Anderson. Ethel was a Registered Nurse, a graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. She served during WWII in the US Army as a nurse. Ethel later worked private duty nursing and was the Nurse for the Hamden Children Center. Relatives and friends may attend her funeral service on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM in BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden and may visit with her family at the funeral home Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Contributions in Ethel's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
