Eugene Charles Oberempt,68, of 15 Steuben St., Meriden, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his residence. He was the husband of Eleanor Hoff Oberempt. He was born in Meriden on Aug. 2,1932, the son of the late Charles and Emma Knop Oberempt. He was a graduate of the New England Technical Institute and was employed for twenty-five years as an electronic technician at Superior Electric in Bristol, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wallingford, and was Past Master of Meridian Lodge #77 A.F.&A.M. in Meriden. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, having taken the Scottish and York rites. Mr. Oberempt was a member of the Shriner Sphinx Temple in Newington where he was on the director's staff and at the time of his death he was Assistant Chaplain. He was also a member of many other Shrine Clubs and was a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Club in Meriden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Steve Sherrill of Hempstead, North Carolina; a sister, Lynne Hillary of Manchester, CT and two nephews, David Becker and Reid Becker, both of Florida. The family would like to thank the MidState-VNA Hospice for their kindness and dedication. The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Meriden. Relatives and friends may call Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. A Masonic serive will be held at 8 p.m. If desired, contributions in Mr. Oberempt's memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road,Wallingford, CT 06492 or, to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
