Meriden - Eunice B. Chase, 96, wife of the late Alonzo Chase passed away on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Coccomo Heathcare Center in Meriden. She was born April 3, 1913 in Meriden a daughter of the late Alanson and Sarah (Cone) Birdsey and lived in Meriden her entire life. She had worked at Home Bank until her retirement. Eunice was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she was very active and a member of the Olive Branch Chapel. Eunice will be most remembered for her quick wit and humorous poems sent on innumerable birthday cards. The love of her life was family. In her later years she enjoyed summers at the shore with her loved ones and watching Red Sox games. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Sause and her husband Richard of Meriden, a son Barry Chase and his wife Rosemary of Texas, four grandchildren; Story and Heather Leavesley and Craig and Andy Chase, three great grandchildren, Trevor, Lyssa and Gabriel as well as one niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Neal Chase in 2000 and a grandson, Christopher Leavesley in 1979. Christopher was born on her fiftieth birthday. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am, prior to the service.
