In the Hospital of St. Raphael, Sept. 18, 2008, Evelyn Crowley Sherwood, 89, wife of Henry Sherwood of Orange, mother of Judith A. and her husband John Mitchell of Orange, Charles W. Sherwood of Orange and Henry L. Sherwood, II of PA. Also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Evelyn was born in Jersey City, NJ, March 16, 1919 daughter of the late Charles L. and Anna Stapleton Crowley. She worked as a secretary at the University of New Haven for 20 years and retired in 1984. She had been a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Orange since 1953, member of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and longtime member of the Friends of the Library at the Univ. of New Haven. Friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT-TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven on Sat., Sept. 20 from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd in Orange. Contributions in Evelyn's memory may be made to the Friends of the Library at the Univ. of New Haven, 300 Boston Post Rd., West Haven, CT 06516 or to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 680 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT 06477.
