Evelyn Florence John, 98, passed away peacefully January 10, 2017. She was born in Holy Innocence, Grenada December 31, 1918 daughter of the late Phillip and Aribella Daniel Henwood and lived in Trinidad where she was married and raised her children. While in Trinidad she was a member of Trinity Cathedral and it's Mothers Union and also the Good Shepard. She taught children of socialites as a young woman. She later came to America in the 1980's where she enjoyed taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Evelyn 'Granny' was a precious jewel of the family. She was 'the rock' and reigning matriarch. She is survived by a daughter Jacqueline Joseph of Queens, NY, a daughter in law Willis John of Pasco County, FL, her grandchildren Kevin Joseph of Kansas, Stacey Joseph and her husband Sam Carrington of Hamden, Dermont John and his wife Heather John of Bowmanville, Canada, Damien John and his fiancee Nija of Pasco County, FL, Thandi John Scotland and her husband Leslie Scotland of Wesley Chapel, FL. Great grandmother of Marcus Anthony Carrington of Hamden, Azalea Scotland, Sharlee Scotland, and Samantha Scotland all of Wesley Chapel, FL. She was predeceased by a daughter Linda John, a son Alan John, and her siblings, George St. Cyr, Frank St. Cyr, Sylvia St. Cyr, Hawke Henwood and Nordica St. Cyr. She is also survived by several neices and nephews who reside in the United States and several parts of the Caribbean. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave Hamden. Friday January 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m.

  1. While I had only known Granny for the last 10 years of her life, she filled my heart with love, joy and laughter for which seem like forever. As I shared her passing with my13 year old daughter, she stopped and reflected on her time with her said, .I remember when she use to watch me and we sat on the couch together, I’m going to miss her.. The memories of Granny. She will forever be in my heart and will forever be missed.
