Florence FitzGibbon
Florence FitzGibbon, 95, passed away on September 9, 2008 after a long illness. She was born in New Haven on October 4, 1912 to the late William and Catherine Keenan FitzGibbon. Florence leaves her sister Rosalie FitzGibbon of Woodbridge and her dear friends Cecelia Benson and Eleanor Duke. Florence grew up and lived almost her whole life in New Haven at 48 Austin St. She is a 1933 graduate of New Haven Normal School (now SCSU). She taught grammar school in Plainville and North Haven, was a member of the Association of Retired Teachers of Connecticut, a long time parishioner of St. Aidans Church in New Haven and enjoyed taking day trips with her friends. Florence's family would like to thank the staff at Coachman Square in Woodbridge for the loving care and compassion they gave for over three years. Also, more recently, the wonderful care Florence received at Brook Hollow in Wallingford. A Funeral Service will be held at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Friday, Sept. 12th at 11 a.m. Friends may visit before the service from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Memorial contributions in Florence's name may be sent to the Alzheimer's Assoc. I have fond memories of teaching with Florence in North Haven when she taught second grade. She was a loving and gentle lady
Ms. Fitzgibbon was one of my teachers when I was at Green Acres School. She was the most thoughful and caring teacher, one that I still remember fondly. She always encouraged me to do better and was very supportive. As we get older we realize those that made a lasting impression on our lives and she certainly was one of those people. I was so saddened to learn of her passing. May God Bless her.
Florence and Rosalie also had a sister who predeceased them, Catherine, born August 30, 1910, died June 14th 1993.
