Florence M. Russell Ellis, age 82, of North Haven, passed away on September 5, 2015. Florence was born in New Haven on January 14, 1933, the daughter of the late Anthony & Josephine Rzasa Onofrio. She was the wife of Donald C. Ellis of Arden Courts in Hamden and predeceased by her first husband George L. Russell Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Plisco & her husband Legh of Montgomery, TX; her son George L. Russell III & his wife Theresa of Yalesville; grandchildren, Brian & Kevin Plisco, Justin, Christopher & Nicole Russell and Alicia Casanova; great grandson, Grayson Russell and her brother Anthony Onofrio of Florida. Through her life, Florence enjoyed singing as a soprano. She began singing as a high school student at Wilbur L. Cross High School. After she sang at her graduation ceremony, she continued singing at weddings, ribbon cuttings and various events in the Greater New Haven Area. She was a gardener later in life enjoying a beautiful flower garden in her back yard. For many years she worked as an administrative secretary, at Statewide Motors, Aqualogic Inc, and Atlantic Insurance Company. As a resident of North Haven most of her life she was a member of the League of Republican Woman Voters and the Greater New Haven Stroke Group - Hamden Chapter. Florence also volunteered for many years with the West Ridge Volunteer Fire Dept. at the North Haven Fair. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and may attend her funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Greater NH Stroke Group, 2901 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
