In New Haven, May 18, 2005, Florence Scouris Branagan , formerly of Elmer Ave., Hamden, wife of the late Jack Edward Branagan, mother of Patricia B. Shultz and her husband, Edward of Hamden and Susan Branagan of Bridgewater, CT, grandmother of Kirk W. Shultz and his wife, Ellen of Beacon Falls, Richard K. Shultz, Sr. , Carrie Velardi and her husband, Russell and Craig W. Shultz and his wife, Joanne all of Hamden, Scott B. Shultz and his wife, Anne of New York City and Bruce L Shultz and his wife, Wendy of Great Falls, Montana. Also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and a niece, Marilyn Mehr of West Orange, NJ. Florence was predeceased by a sister, Helen S. Mehr. Born in Nazareth, PA, Sept. 21, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Othis C. and Florence Walter Scouris. After high school, she attended Drake Business School. Florence was the secretary in the Guidance Dept. at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ for 20 years retiring in 1977. She was the original organizer of the Englewood Education Association of Secretaries, serving as president for the first 6 years. She was also active in the National and the New Jersey Educational Association of Secretaries. In Englewood, Florence served on the United Way, Englewood Historical Society and the Englewood Council of the Girl Scouts where she worked to establish Girl Scout Troops. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Englewood, she joined the Hamden Plains Methodist Church when she moved to Hamden 18 years ago. She served six years as treasurer of the Hamden AARP. Funeral Service will be held at the Hamden Plains Methodist Church on Monday, May 23rd at 10 a.m. Friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN, Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, 14 Church St., Hamden, CT 06514.
