In Wallingford, March 1, 2004, Frank S. Winchester, III, of Ashlar Village, formerly of Hamden. Husband of Doris Keeney Brown Winchester. Born in Albany, NY, May 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank S. and Valerie Wentworth Winchester. A graduate of Boston University, Frank entered the Insurance field, working with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., American Mutual Insurance Co. and twenty years as a General Agent with the Larsen - Walsh Insurance Agency in Hamden retiring in 1981. A member of Christ Lutheran Church where he sang in their choir, he was also an accomplished organist and played for some area churches and for Masonic events. He was a member of Day Spring Lodge # 30 A.F. & A.M., The Scottish Rite and Pyramid Temple of the Shrine. He was awarded the Pierpont Edwards Medal by the Connecticut Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. for service in 1975. Frank was an ardent volunteer at the Masonic Healthcare Center for over 20 years, logging over 18,000 hours, where a work room for volunteers was named in his honor and was a generous supporter of many events. He was awarded the Luke Lockwood Medal for outstanding service to Masonicare in 1993. Beside his wife he is survived by his daughters, Karen Connolly Butler and her husband, Terry of Lebanon, NH, Valerie W. Zane and her husband, Dr. William Zane of Sandwich, MA, a son, Charles E. Winchester and his wife, Bonnie of Hamden, stepsons, Ret. Col. Robert C. Brown and his wife, Cynthia of Colorado Springs, CO and Leonard K. Brown and his wife, Judith of East Barnard, VT, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, 3 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen Johnson Winchester. Funeral service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Hamden, Saturday, March 6 at 10 A.M. Friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN, Friday from 5 - 8 P.M. A Masonic service by Day Spring Lodge # 30, A.F. & A.M. will be held at 7:30 P.M. It is suggested that memorial contributions be sent to; The Valerie Winchester Scholarship Fund @ Masonic Healthcare Center, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to Christ Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave. Hamden, CT 06518.

  1. Although I have not know Frank, his son Charles has been a friend and business associate for many years. Since Charles is the quality person he is, his dad must have possessed similar traits. My thoughts are with Charles and his family during these these difficult days of loss and rememberance.
