Freddie Lee Roberts, 79, of Hamden, formerly of Meriden, passed away on October 5, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Albany, Georgia on January 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Abraham & Eula Mae (Yancey) Roberts.

Freddie was educated in the Albany, Georgia school system. He graduated as part of the Class of 1962, before continuing his education studying electronics and metal machinery in the Monroe area Vocational school. Freddie was an excellent draftsman and had a keen eye for drawing objects.

Freddie retired as a factory worker from Walboro Automotive in Meriden and was most recently a Home Healthcare Companion. He enjoyed traveling, art, music (listening to and playing instruments), dancing, photography, attending festivals and different events. He was a free spirit, had the gift of gab, and was known as the Historian of the Yancey and Roberts family.

Freddie loved his family. He will be greatly missed by both family and friends, including his cousin Patrick Wilkerson, and close friends Reggie (whom he referred to as his brother) and Runnell “Cookie” Spratley, James and Harriet Canty, and goddaughter Donna Artis.

In addition to his parents, Freddie was predeceased by his wife Elzina Odrick Roberts, granddaughter Ciera Roberts, and siblings Charles and Michael Roberts. He was also predeceased by his friends Oliver Brooks, Jimmy Atkins, and Henry Mcquillar.

He is survived by his children, Conrad Roberts & James Roberts, both of Meriden, Lorenzo Roberts of GA, and Cicily (Danny) Ford of Hamden; grandchildren Makaila & Julia Roberts and Brije Lewis, Shemira Pennyman, Jaidan & Bryson Ford; his siblings, Ernest (Ruby) Roberts, Geneva Burks, Rozena Roberts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

Friends may visit with his family at the Faith Center Church, 22 Crown Street, Meriden, CT 06450 on Monday, Oct. 24th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to his Prayer Service, to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery. Freddie was very proud of his culture and loved his African attire-please feel free to come pay your respects in traditional African or Caribbean dress.
