Fremont E. Dickerman, Jr., 94, beloved husband of 70 years to Virginia Nelson Dickerman of Hamden, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2023.
Father of Fremont E. Dickerman, III of Higganum and Todd D. Dickerman of Hamden, grandfather of Christopher Todd Dickerman of Northford and Rachel Emily Dickerman of Queens, NY. Brother of Marion Ann Dickerman of Ormand Beach, FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was born in New Haven August 28, 1929, a son of the late Fremont E. and Anna Mary Mulford Dickerman, Sr., and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1946-1948. He and his wife were owners and operators of his company Capitol Oil & Trucking for many years prior to his retirement in 1989. He built go-karts and stock cars, which he and his friends raced at Stafford and Waterford Speedways. Fremont was a member of the D.A.V, enjoyed snowmobiling, and was Treasurer of the “Snow Dusters” Snowmobile Club of Hamden. He also enjoyed being captain of his boat, the “Dynasty,” which he kept on the CT River in Chester for many years. Each year at Halloween and Christmas he and Virginia would decorate their house and yard with many homemade displays for everyone to enjoy!
Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Committal Service with Military Honors on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, 3801 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Memorial contributions may be sent to the WH VAMC, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
