George Henry Gilmore, 87, beloved husband for 45 years to Evelyn Mansfield Gilmore, of Wallingford, formerly of North Haven, passed away suddenly on August 7, 2009 at the Masonic Health Center. He was born in New Haven on September 11, 1921 to the late Robert and Clara Buchta Gilmore. George grew up in New Haven and graduated from the University of New Haven with an Engineering degree. After college he joined the Army, proudly serving during WWII in the China, Burma, India Campaign. Once he returned home, he began work as an engineer for Olin Company until his retirement 42 years later. George was a past Master at the Day Spring Lodge #30 AF & AM and a past Associate District Marshal. He and his wife volunteered at the Masonic Home and Hospital for many years. He enjoyed tending his garden, photography, and traveling with his wife. Besides his wife, George leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four siblings, Isabella Bergman, Clara Bewersce, David Gilmore, and Warren Gilmore. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 10th at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in North Haven. Friends may visit with the family on Monday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Masonic Service will take place at the funeral home at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's memory may be sent to St. John' s Episcopal Church, 3 Trumbull Place, North Haven, CT 06473 or Day Spring Lodge #30, 3732 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
