George Kenneth Valente, 84, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2017 at the Masonic Home. He was born in New Haven on February 8, 1932 to the late Charles and Marion Spears Valente. George will be remembered by his wife of 62 years, Ann Petruzzello Valente; daughters, Teresa (Kevin) Boyce of Madison, Donna DiNicola of Hamden, and Connie Valente of Hamden; brother, Nelson (Millie) Valente of Ansonia; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Jr., Norman, Sherwood, and Gary Valente. George grew up in New Haven and West Haven before settling in Hamden where he has resided for the last 41 years. After high school he joined the US Army, having served in the Korean War, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Star. He was employed by FJ Dayhill Painting for over 20 years until his retirement. Hunting was George's favorite pastime. He always looked forward to his annual hunting trip with his longtime friend, Walter Altvater. Besides being remembered as a kind man, George will be remembered as the 'fixer' who could fix anything. Friends are invited to visit with his family on Monday, January 23rd from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Ascension Church, 1040 Dunbar Hill Rd, Hamden at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place with Military Honors in All Saints Cemetery.
