Gerald C. Haling
Gerald C. Haling, 95 husband of the late Evelyn (Priebe) Haling died on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Salmon Brook Center in Glastonbury. He was born in Middletown, CT on April 18, 1915 a son of the late Harry and Maude (Scully) Haling. He graduated from Middletown High School where he played football and ran track. He lived in Middletown until he married Evelyn Priebe in 1945 and they were together for 58 years. Gerald lived in Meriden the rest of his life until moving to Glastonbury in 2006. He entered the Army Air Force on Oct.31, 1942 and discharged on Feb. 11, 1946. He served as a sergeant and was an airplane and engine mechanic, maintaining B-17 bombers. He was stationed at several different bases including, Dyerburg, TN; Geneva, Nebraska, Texas, Arizona and Michigan. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gerald then worked for Pratt & Whitney for 39 years, retiring in 1980. He had worked at all four of their locations, E.Hartford, Southington, N.Haven and retired from Middletown. He loved to golf and was on the Pratt & Whitney golf league for several years and continued golfing even after retiring. He was always on the lookout for golf clubs to add to his growing collection. He was also an avid gardener and loved playing cards. He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia and her husband Paul Demers of Hebron, Ct and two grandaughters, Alison and Jill Demers. He was predeceased by two sisters, Winifred Barrows and Dorothy Birdsey. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden. The Rev. Joel Neubauer will officiate. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:30 until the time of service. The Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden is in charge of the arrangements.
