Gerald H. Longley
Hamden-Gerald H. Longley, 93, of Gilbert Ave Hamden, husband of the late Virginia Murray Longley, passed away in St. Raphael Hospital July 23, 2001 after a brief illness. He was born in Rutland, VT December 14, 1907 a son of the late Forest E. and Margaret Johnson Longley and had lived in Hamden most of his life. He was a conductor on the N.Y., N.H. and Hartford R.R. for 30 years retiring in 1972. Mr. Longley was a long time volunteer at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, having volunteered over 500 hours, he also volunteered at the Hamden Y.M.C.A. and was a member of the Y's Men's Club. He is survived by three daughters, Gail Longley of Hamden, Barbara Carr of Wallingford, Joan Charbonneau of Wallingford, a son, Robert Longley of Hamden, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 4 brothers and a sister. Friends may call Friday July 27 from 5 - 8 pm at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial in Centerville Cemetery will be Monday July 30, at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
(My father wanted his name added) My father, grandfather and I all worked with Jerry on the railroad, and my father and Jerry were both involved with the electric trains at the Masonic Hospital. Jerry was a great friend. -Willis Copeland Jr.
