Geraldine (Jeri) C. (Antonucci) Giaimo, age 80, of Cheshire, formerly of East Haven, loving wife of the late Hon. Thomas J. Giaimo, passed away on August 24, 2018 at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in New Haven on July 6, 1938 to the late James and Anna (LaMonica) Antonucci. Loving mother of Maryanne (Ralph) Pisani of Berlin, James (Nancy) Giaimo of Fairfield, Gerald (Sarah) Giaimo of New Haven, and the late Paul (Sarah) Giaimo. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren; Maria Pisani, Caroline, Kristen, Clare, Cecilia, Francine, Michael, and Abigail Giaimo, and her brothers; Harry and Anthony Antonucci. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in 1956, Jeri went on to receive her Bachelor's, Master's and Administrative Degrees from Southern Connecticut State College. She went on to teach in the East Haven Public School system for over 25 years, spearhead the burgeoning field of Special Education, and retiring as Coordinator of Special Education. Jeri was called out of retirement, and became Principal of Sacred Heart & St. Peter School, now St. Martin de Porres Academy on Columbus Avenue in New Haven. While raising children, working full time and supporting her husband's political career, Jeri always made time to champion for students and teachers. She was a recipient of the Knights of Honor Award from Notre Dame High School in West Haven. She was also a proud, 25-year member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary organization of women educators. Friends are invited to visit with Jeri's family on Tuesday August 28 from 5-8pm in the Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, Hamden. Her procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30am on Wednesday August 29 for her Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Martin de Porres Academy, 208 Columbus Ave. New Haven, CT 06519.
