Gerhard M. Boettger, 96, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2018 at Masonic Healthcare Center. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Gould) Boettger. Born in Mylau, Germany on April 2, 1922, Gerhard was the son of the late Max and Elsa (Weintraub) Boettger. Moving to the United States in 1925, Gerhard grew up in New Haven and graduated from Hillhouse High School. He went on to join the United States Army and earned two Bronze Star Medals serving in the Second World War. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Gerhard worked for more than 50 years as a toolmaker for the Winchester Division of Olin. He was a longtime member of the Harugari Singing Society and Friedens-Loeniker Lodge #10. Along with his wife, Gerhard is survived by his daughters Gerda Leveille and her husband Patrick, Kara Boettger, and Lisa Boettger; grandchildren Tommy, Sean, and Wendy Glynn, and Erik and Ryan Leveille; great-grandchildren Tommy and Lizzie Glynn, and Eleanor Leveille. He is also survived by his sister Gudrun Holland, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Helga Glynn, and brother Rudolf Boettger. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gerhard's family TODAY, Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 6:00-8:00PM at Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. His funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00AM. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gerhard's name may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
