Gretchen Shaw Doran

MERIDEN - Gretchen Shaw Doran, 99, formerly of 123 Dryden Drive, died peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2003 at Connecticut Baptist Home, after a long life of lovingly giving to family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert J. Doran. Born in Meriden on Jan. 20, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Henry T. and Emma Heilman Shaw, and was a lifelong resident of Meriden. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Gretchen loved her home and always greeted family and friends with home cooked meals, pies and cookies and never missed remembering a birthday. She is survived by a brother, John ''Bub'' Shaw of Meriden; a sister-in-law, Edith Shaw of Cromwell; and six nieces and nephews, Stewart Shaw of San Diego, CA, Jean Ann Smoot of Clifton, TX, Catherine S. Turton of Tampa, FL, Sarah Gretchen Shaw of Corvallis, OR, Elizabeth Johnson of Cromwell and Suzanna Durgin Simpson of Gardner, ME. She was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Shaw Durgin; a brother, Henry Shaw, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Jane Stewart Shaw and a nephew, Peter Shaw. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 10 a.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Stocksdale will officiate. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT.
