Gunnar Fredelf Selmquist, 97, husband of the late Lillian Grund Selmquist, passed away May 18, 2007 in the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center of Wallingford after a brief illness. Mr. Selmquist was born in Smolund, Sweden September 3, 1909 a son of the late Carl and Matilde Lindquist Selmquist and was owner of the Selmquist Painting Co. for many years prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as a 2nd class gunner's mate on the U.S.S. Rodman. He was a 70 year member of Aldephi Lodge # 63 A.F. & A. M. of New Haven, the Odd Fellows, Shriners of Bridgeport, V.A.S.A., and Bethesda Lutheran Church. After retirement he resided in Florida for 30 years before returning to CT in 1999. He is survived by a son Allan Selmquist, and his wife Vivian, of Port Richey, FL, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and was predeceased by a sister and 3 brothers. Graveside service of Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park will be private. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN.
