Harold 'Hal' M. Withnell, passed away April 16, 2008 at the age of 82. He was the husband of Ruth Baumgartner Withnell; father of David and his wife, Liz Withnell of Rockville, MD and Laurie and her husband, Ken Vigneault of Milford and grandfather of Marissa and Kevin Vigneault and Jennifer, Andrew, Ben and Leah Withnell. Hal was predeceased by a brother Dwight Withnell and a sister Muriel Bender. Hal was born June 26, 1925 in the Bronx, NY a son of the late Claude and Blanche Middlebrook Withnell. During WW II he served as a paratrooper in the US Army. He was a retired sales manager for the United Illuminated Co. and a member of American Legion Post # 88 of Hamden and a member of IRC. Relatives and friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Friday (today) from 5 to 7 P.M. & may attend his funeral service on Saturday at 10 A.M. April 19, 2008 in Hamden Plains United Methodist Church. Graveside service with Military Honors will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, 15 Church St., Hamden, CT 06514 or to the Amercian Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

  4. Ruth and family, I was in Florida when I heard the news of Hal’s passing. Thankfully I am home in time to attend the funeral today. I will always treasure the pieces of his wonderful stained glass given to Thomas on several occasions. I always treasured my relationship with you, but especially the special gifts you always gave my child, your relationship with him, and your long example of faith were beautiful to both him and I.
