Helen Cecelia Scanlon, 98, of Hamden, wife of the late Raymond Scanlon, passed away at the Curtis Home on November 18, 2016. Born in New Haven on July 21, 1918 to the late Timothy and Hannah O'Brien O'Connor. Helen will be remembered by her children and their spouses, Raymond & Patricia Scanlon of Clinton, Carolyn & Joseph DeGrand of Hamden, Richard & Ellen Scanlon of Rock Hill, NC, and Timothy (retired NHFD) & Linda Scanlon of Hamden. Also, 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson and her brothers; Dennis, Timothy, & Rev. Martin O'Connor. Helen proudly grew up in the Fair Haven section of New Haven, where she and her husband raised their family. For the last 50 years Hamden has been her home. Helen was an administrative assistant at Yale University for many years before working at the Hamden Police Dept., from where she retired. Helen was a strong, pragmatic woman, and family was the most important thing in her life. Her greatest joy was watching her family grow and succeed over the years. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Curtis Home in Meriden, for the loving care they provided during Helen's stay there. Friends may visit with her family on Monday, November 21st from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery.
