Helen T. Coger, 84, of New Haven died peacefully on the 14th day of March 2014 after a long illness. Born in Wilmington, DE on November 2, 1929 to the late George and Nettie Benson Macklin. Moved to New Haven in 1932. Wife of the late Stephen Coger. Helen leaves five children, daughters, Deborah Sands Parker (Glen) of Oklahoma City, OK and Brenda Sands Jaske (Juhani) of Hamden; sons, Stephen Coger of New Haven and Adam and Randolf Coger both of New York; sister, Georgianna Miller of New Haven; niece, Alexis Donna Smith of South Carolina; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren & 8 great great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her brother, Joseph A. Smith and nephews, Norman Stewart and George V. Miller. Helen served as a school crossing guard for a number of years in the City of New Haven and was a member of Sacred Heart Church for many years. Her family would like to thank the staff and the Hospice Nurses at Arden House for keeping their mother as comfortable as possible during her stay. Their kindness was very much appreciated. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, March 17th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden. Helen's Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.
