Iris Santiago, 67, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday November 29, 2009. She was born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico on March 21, 1942. Mrs. Jose Santiago worked for 13 years for Jackson Corrigated Container and Smuritt Stone Inc. for 23 years before retiring. Iris was a breast cancer survivor and passed on before a loving husband, Jose D. Santiago and will be celebrating 50 years of marriage on December 18, 2009. In addition to her husband Jose, she is the mother of six children; daughters, Iris Santiago, Jackie Santiago-Rivera and her husband Louis, Nancy Santiago-Woodberry and her husband Ronny, Patricia Wise and a son Jose Santiago Jr., 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Iris will meet her son Louis Santiago in Heaven who passed in 1996. Iris is loved by many family and friends and will be missed for her caring heart, open home, great cooking and good advice. A funeral will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 8:30am at the Beecher & Benentt-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at St.Joseph Church, West Main St., Meriden. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 3 from 4-8pm. Contributions in Iris's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O.Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.

My grandmother was the best grandmother any grandchild could ask for she would always spoil me when i wouldnt get my way with my mother regardless of whether or not what i did was wrong she would always take my side i always felt like her favorite grandchild and i will never forget her loving memories with me and the talks of life and love i will cherish what i have learned from her and she will forever remain in a special place in my heart
