James “Jim” W. Teagle, Jr., age 95, passed away peacefully at MidState Medical Center on May 24, 2023. He was the son of the late James W. Teagle, Sr. and Meryl Gallager Teagle of Meriden.
Jim was born, raised, and resided in Meriden for most of his life. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1945 and was a member of the varsity basketball team. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Stuttgart, Germany with the United States Army. Jim attended Samson, Hillyer, and Trinity Colleges after his discharge from the Army. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Meriden and Nyack, NY for 37 years.
When not working, Jim enjoyed golf, bridge, landscaping, and following the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, and UConn basketball. Jim was a long-time member of the Meriden Y.M.C.A. and was a founder of the Y’s Men Organization. He served for many years on the Physical Education Committee at the Y and on the organizing committee for numerous New England and National Racquetball Championships held at the Meriden Y in the 1960s. He and his wife were members of The First United Methodist Church of Meriden for 66 years.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Brenda Teagle of Wake Forest, NC; his grandchildren, Jana Teagle of Wilmington, DE, and Jayson (Jamie) Teagle of Milton, GA; three great-grandchildren; Jack, and twins, Ben and Annie Teagle; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte O. Teagle (February 15, 2023).
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Wednesday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. in Nelson Hall at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be private. BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden is in care of arrangements. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man. He was a faithful fan of all of our games and even filled in as the manager in a game vs Dalton Ma. And did a terrific job. You have been very fortunate to have had your mom and dad around and vibrant for so many years. I am lucky that I got to know such a terrific guy!
