Jane Burr Massey, 91 of Ashlar Village in Wallingford, CT formally of Orange and Derby, CT passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Jane was born in Manchester, CT on May 16, 1933. She was the oldest of three daughters born to the late Katherine Gallagher Burr and Charles Stevens Burr. She was predeceased by her sister Susan Hartz and survived by her sister Anne Czepiel also of Ashlar Village. She was a graduate and proud three letter “lavender” athlete at St. Margaret’s prep school in Waterbury, CT. She graduated from Tufts University, Bouve School of Physical Therapy in Medford MA and received a Master’s Degree from the University of New Haven.
Jane was proud of her career but she was most proud of her family. She was the beloved mother of three. She leaves behind her son Steven, daughter Laurel and son-in-law Steve. She was predeceased by the light of her life, her youngest son Brian. She was blessed with grandchildren that admired and adored her, Jennifer and her husband Andrew, Brian and his wife Jill, Kaitlyn and Katherine. She was doubly blessed with three great-grandchildren Aubrey, Avalynn and Ryleigh Jane.
Volunteering was a way of life for Jane, she always looked for ways to give back and help others. She was a leader in all she did. Winning Women in Leadership in 1981 and Volunteer of the Year Award in 2004 for Quota International of New Haven. Other involvement included but was not limited to Connecticut ARC, YWCA in New Haven, where she learned and taught pewter craft, Quota International, Camp Cedar Crest and the Orange Badminton Club. She had many hobbies including pewter, gardening, birdwatching but most importantly always checking in on her loved ones. She was a friend to all who knew her. She loved her life at Ashlar Village, including all her friends, meetings, working in the OP shop and all that was involved in being Ashlar Village’s number one fan.
A funeral service will be held on Monday December 23rd at 2 pm. at the Congregation Church in Union, 976 Buckley Highway, Union, CT. We understand due to the upcoming holidays many will be unable to join us. We encourage everyone to join us at a Celebration of Life to honor and celebrate the life of Jane Massey at Ashlar Village on January 11th, 2025 at 2:00 pm (snow date 1/25/25) 74 Cheshire Road Wallingford CT. Please bring your favorite stories and memories to share.

Oh Steve I just got the news that your Mom has passed away. I am sad to hear it & beyond sorry for your loss.
I loved Jane. She was a pal & we had a lot of fun & giggles together back in the day. We also won our 1st badminton tournament together at the New Haven Badminton Club.
I know you and Laurel will miss her but I hope your nice memories can sustain you in this sad time.
