Jean (Thomson) Belfonti, 75, lifetime New Haven resident, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Jean was born on February 3, 1940 to the late Edward and Lena (Knodel) Thomson. She married the love of her life, Arnold Belfonti, Sr on June 19, 1965. They spent 50 years together. She worked at Yale University, first as the Secretary to the President for 10 years. After a 14 year hiatus to raise her son, she returned to Yale University. She retired as Registrar in the Physics Department in 1998. Jean enjoyed seeing movies with her husband, and working on the latest New York Times crossword puzzle. What brought her true joy was her family. She loved shopping with her sister, Mary Anne Schulz (Stephen) of New Haven, CT, with whom she shared a special bond. The light in her life was her son, Arnold Belfonti, Jr (Tricia) and her precious granddaughters, Madeline and Olivia, of Southington, CT. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Allen Thomson of Bradenton, FL; brother in law, John (Sharon) Belfonti of Orange, CT; nieces and nephews: Megan Schulz and her fiancé, Rory Torrey of Aiken, SC; Michael (Racquel) Belfonti of North Haven, CT; Lee Shannon, of Miami, FL; Robin (Keith) Beckett of Miami, FL; John (Sharon) Belfonti of Orange, CT; Kara (Chris) DelVecchio, of Orange, CT; Jolene Goode of East Haven, CT; Brenda Belfonti of Florence, SC, as well as many grand nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a nephew, and multiple brothers and sisters in law. Jean's family would like to thank Hospice of Branford, and Compassionate Companions, LLC of Waterbury for their loving care of Jean during her last days. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Sunday, Dec. 20th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM and may attend her Funeral Service on Monday in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Guestbook

  1. We are sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. Jean was always such a lively person with such a bubbly personality. I (Warren) will always fondly recall the times I spent with her and all of the Belfonti, Thomson, and Schulz families while I was attending Yale. We send our condolences from Hawaii and pray for the God of all mercy to comfort all of you at this time.

    Aloha,

    Warren and Joanne Naai
