In Hamden, Dec. 17, 2000, Jeaniegray Mague Schiebel Olesen was born March 2, 1915 in New Haven, the daughter of the late Francis M. and Mary McInnes Mague; adopted-daughter of the late Otto Schiebel. She was the widow of William Howard Olesen, Sr. She is survived by three sons, Edward Crandall Johnson, Jr. of Hawaii, David G. Johnson and Geoffrey Johnson of Hamden and ten grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Edna Mague Rider Vick and second husband, Franklyn Haven Stokes. Her first husband was Edward Crandall Johnson, to whom she was married from 1942 until 1964. Mrs. Olesen, a noted artist, graduated from Yale University School of Fine Arts in 1939 and received teaching accreditations from Columbia University and New York University. She taught art in the Hamden school system and at Holy Infant Jr. High School in Orange. In the 1960's and 1970's, Mrs. Olesen owned and operated a commercial art business in Hamden. Mrs. Olesen was a member and past president of the New Haven Women's Intermediate Club and was active in the community as a Red Cross volunteer and a literacy volunteer. During the late 1950's and early 1960's she was Hamden Easter Seal Chairman. From 1974 - 76 she served on the Hamden Bicentennial Commission. Funeral service will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 185 Cold Spring St., New Haven, Thursday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. Friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Burial wil be in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.
