Joan Wheeler of Hamden, CT passed away peacefully on December 27, 2017 at the age of 83. She was born on August 11, 1934 in Meriden, CT to the late Peter and Viola Oblon Skamarycz and grew up in Gardner, MA. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Roger Jackson Wheeler, Jr. She is survived by her loving children: Sharon Linet and her husband Sol of Orange, CT; Sandra Smith and her husband Patrick of Ridgefield, CT; and Roger Wheeler and his wife Beth of Midlothian, VA. She is also survived by her five beloved grandsons: AJ and David Linet; Grayson and Kieran Smith; and Jackson Wheeler. She is survived by four of her five siblings: Frances Arseneault of Auburn, MA; Bernie Skamarycz of Worcester, MA; Richie Skamarycz and Judi Dill of Gardner, MA. She is predeceased by her brother Bob Skamarycz of Superior, WI. She is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and their families, who she loved dearly. Friends are invited to join her family for a celebration of her life at her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, 177 W. Main St., Meriden, CT. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave, Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, www.michaeljfox.org.
