John Jack' Wentworth Shimeld, Jr.
John 'Jack' Wentworth Shimeld, Jr, age 91, of Circular Ave., Hamden, passed away June 14, 2009 at Hamden Health Care Center. Jack is the husband of Fay K. Mullen Shimeld; father of Susan Iannucci of Hamden, Shelley and her husband Larry P. Wilson of Summerville, SC and Richard and his wife Cindy Fowler of Virginia. Jack also leaves 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Born in New Haven on Jan. 28, 1918 he was predeceased by his parents, John W. Shimeld, Sr. and Hazel Goldgett Shimeld Jones, and his brother Robert Shimeld. Jack was employed at Yale University for 41 years, starting as an electrician and retiring as the General Manager of the Physical Plant. He is a member of Christ Church in New Haven; he was a former member of the Brotherhood and the Senior Warden of St. Andrew's Church in New Haven. Jack was also instrumental in the establishment of St. Peter's on the Hill Episcopal Church in Hamden. Jack's family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Hamden Health Care Center and CT Hospice for their care and compassion for Jack during his time of need. Relatives & friends are invited to visit on Friday, June 19, 2009 with his family from 9:30 to 10 AM and attend his Funeral Service at 10 AM in BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. My Condolences to Jack’s family. I had the pleasure to work with Jack for a number of years at Yale University. His leadership at Physical Plant, provided the insentive for all of us to get the job done properly. In addition, Jack was always available when we needed help. He will always be remembered.
