John R. Norman, Sr., 84, of Washington Ave., West Haven, CT passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at CT Hospice in Branford. John was the beloved husband of Helen Lutz Norman. He also leaves daughter Nancy Marsh of North Haven, sons John, Jr. (Michele) and Gary E. (Darlene) of West Haven; grandchildren Emmett Marsh, III of North Haven, Catherine Marsh of MA, and Melissa and Rebecca Norman of West Haven. He was predeceased by brothers Edwin W., Harold S. and Albert M. Norman and sister Gladys Spence. John was born in Elizabeth, NJ on September 12, 1925, a son of the late Edward E. and Janie G. Norman. He was educated in the West Haven, CT school system and was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. He was a retired management accountant executive with Pegnataro's Supermarkets. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. John was a musician and played trumpet with the Stardusters Band. He served on the Board of Directors of the West Haven Child Development Center and was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church and served on the parish council. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11 AM in St. John Vianney Church , 300 Captain Thomas Blvd., West Haven. Friends may visit with the family Thursday evening from 4-8 PM at BEECHER & BENNETT-TAYLOR, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden, following the service. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
