Joseph Charles Palmieri, husband of Gertrude Irene Palmieri, formerly of West Haven, died at the Masonic Health Care Center on July 25, 2009. He was born on August 19, 1920 and raised in the Highwood Section of Hamden and attended Hamden Schools. Joseph was the last of thirteen surviving children of the late Philip and Josephine Sansone Palmieri. He served in the US Army 687 Ordinance Co., during WWII in North Africa and Italy, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for Sealtest Foods, ice cream division, for many years and finished his work career with Harty Press of New Haven at age seventy-nine. Joseph leaves his daughter Susan and her husband Ron Nattrass of Hudson, FL; grandson, Jeffrey Nattrass and his wife Erin of Wallingford; grandaughter Kate Nattrass of Washington, DC; and his great granddaughter Elizabeth Nattrass of Wallingford. He also leaves his daughter Joanne Palmieri of Lyndhurst, OH; his niece Dolores Giannini of Hamden and Several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister: Beatrice Giannini, Margaret Conte, Anna Palmieri, Florence Cappella, Frances Palmieri; brothers, James, Anthony, Robert, Pasquale, Philip, Frank, and Henry Palmieri. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church, West Have on Tuesday, July 28th at 10 a.m. Friends may visit with the family at BEECHER & BENNETT- TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Joseph's memory may be sent to Happy Tails Foundation, P.O. Box 185147, Hamden, CT 06518 or Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70 , Wallingford, CT 06492.
