Joseph DeMato

Joseph DeMato, age 94, of Hamden, passed away on January 11, 2012. Joe was the beloved husband of Mary Penkowsky DeMato. Born in New Haven on March 16, 1917 he was a son of the late Antonio and Margaret Melillo DeMato. He is survived by his sister, Pauline DeMato & sister-in-law Carmel DeMato, both of Hamden; devoted cousins, Ann Tripp of Hamden & Mary Pieper of Cheshire and friend Susan Cifarelli of North Haven. He was predeceased by his brother George DeMato. Joe retired from Textron (M & B) Inc, where he was a lab technician. He was a proud Veteran, serving in the Army during WWII. He was proud of his Good Conduct Medals, his European African Campaign Ribbons and his membership in the American Legion in Hamden. He was an avid fan of the UCONN Mens and Womens basketball teams and enjoyed bowling, baseball and gardening. Friends may visit with his family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 from 12 noon to 1:00 PM and may attend his funeral service in the funeral home at 1:00 PM.
