Joseph J. Merenda

Joseph J. Merenda, 89, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Laurel Woods, East Haven. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy D’Ascoli Merenda. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 6, 1928, son of the late James and Margaret Padulo Merenda. He honorably served in the United States Army and was an avid fan of the NY Mets. Joseph is survived by his nieces and nephews, Nancy Jo Merenda, James Merenda (Christine), Margaret Conti, and Catherine Merenda de Lopez (Marcelo); sister-in-law Joan Merenda; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and seven great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Domenic Merenda. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joseph’s family on Wednesday, May 17, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joseph at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamden.
