Joseph Marcello

Joseph Marcello, age 92, of Hamden, passed away on May 12, 2017 at Masonic Hospice in Wallingford. Joseph was born in New Haven on November 2, 1924, a son of the late Joseph & Mary (Toscano) Marcello. He was predeceased by his wife Jane O'Rourke Marcello. He is survived by his daughter Mary Jayne D'Eugenio of Cheshire, and two grandsons. Joe also leaves his longtime fiancée Ann 'Nancy' Carey of Hamden and her children, Maureen Levick of West Bloomfield, MI and Thomas Carey of Colchester. Joe started working in the shoe repair business with his father in New Haven. He went on to own and operate the Whitneyville Shoe Repair Shop for many years. Joe enjoyed his career and always had a smile for his customers. He was a member of the West Haven Italian-American Club, an avid bowler, card player, and music lover. He was also a decorated veteran of the US Army. Friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 16th, which will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden at 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, PO Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
