In Hamden, January 6, 2002, Julia King Duff Wheeler of 200 Leeder Hill Dr., formerly of Old Hartford Turnpike. Wife of the late J. Bryer Duff, former Vice Pres. of Sales for Sargent and Co. and the late Ralph A. Wheeler, co-founder and President of Chromium Process Company of Shelton. Born in Greensboro, NC on July 18, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Ayrie Ella Council King. Mrs. Wheeler was a 58 year member of the Church of the Redeemer, active in the Women's Association. Served as a volunteer at Yale- New Haven Hospital and the New Haven Symphony, she had served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. With an artistic flare, she painted, wrote poetry and was forever creating for her family and friends. A member of the New Haven Country Club for 56 years, she was active in the Women's Golf Association, playing golf and bowling until age 86. She was a long-time member of the Spring Glen Garden Club. Mrs. Wheeler is survived by sons: James B. Duff of Williamsburg, VA and Robert W. Duff of Wilmington, NC, her daughter, Julia Duff Moore of New Haven and a stepson, Robert Wheeler of Stamford, grandchildren: Elizabeth Duff Stuart, Cynthia Duff Spudic, Lisa Duff Moore, William Pearson, Katharyn Duff Carroll, Elizabeth Pearson Toland and Susan Pearson Fithian, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren and a niece, Helen Goodwin Reams and a sister-in-law, Mary Duff. A celebration of her life will be part of the Epiphany Worship Service at the Church of the Redeemer, corner of Whitney Ave. & Cold Spring St., New Haven 10 a.m. Sun., Jan. 5, 2003. Arrangements under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN.
