June Delores Squire Ashley
June Delores Squire Ashley, of Wallingford, wife of the late Michael H. Ashley, Sr., passed away on June 26, 2012. Born in Winter Haven, FL on October 9, 1938 to the late Robert and Beulah Squire. June attended Oak Park Elementary School in Winter Haven as well as Phyllis Wheatley Elementary in Miami. Her secondary school experience was at Jewett High School in Winter Haven. She was an outstanding clarinet player having been a part of the Marching Wolverine Band and was also a member of the high school track team. June had professional dance lessons at the Kay-Well Dance Studio in Miami Beach and not only did she dance but also trained a dance troupe at Jewett. Upon high school graduation, June was accepted at Tennessee A&I University in Nashville where she majored in biology. While at the University she met Michael who was from Winston-Salem, NC. They were married and became the parents of two children, Michael II and Terry Lynn. June spent some years working in hospitals as a phlebotomist after obtaining her undergraduate degree. After earning her Master's degree she changed her career to education and taught in the sciences. She taught in the Connecticut educational system for nearly 40 years. June was affiliated with several professional and social organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was of the Baptist faith but also attended the Methodist Church with her children. Loving her always are: son, Michael Ashley II and his wife Deborah; daughter, Terry Lynn Ashley; grandson, Durand Michael; granddaughter, Taylor Lynn; brother, Robert L. Squire; sisters, Barbara S. Cross, Madelyn C. Squire, and Linda (Carroll) Nash; aunt, Dollie Squire Miller; sister-in-law, Elsie Miller; cousins, nephews, nieces, many, many former students, co-workers, soros, and friends. Friends are invited to her Funeral Service at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Monday, July 2nd at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Contributions in June's memory may be sent to the, New Haven Scholarship Fund 265 West Elm St., New Haven, CT or the New Haven Alumni Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta, P.O. Box 9477, New Haven, CT 06534-0477.

Terry and family I was so sad to hear about the passing of your mom. She was such an inspiration and mentor to me as my high school teacher.
